What is Aromatherapy ?
Aromatherapy massage uses warmed, aromatic essential oils to stimulate your sense of smell and increase your wellbeing. It works on the idea that the delicious smelling essential oils trigger something in your brain’s limbic system, which is the area of your brain associated with feeling emotions.
Aromatherapy isn’t just a nice-smelling massage – it’s actually recognised by many health professionals and even practiced in some hospices and hospitals in the UK.
A full body aromatherapy massage is fabulous if you’re feeling stressed or anxious, or having trouble sleeping. The massage itself is great for relieving aches and pains and can even help if you’re suffering from chronic pain like backache or headaches.
What to expect
For an aromatherapy massage, you’ll need to remove your clothes – the massage needs to be carried out on bare skin for the oils to penetrate properly. Don’t be shy – the therapist will leave the room while you undress, and there will be plenty of towels available to protect your modesty.
An aromatherapy massage uses smooth and flowing strokes which are designed to leave you feeling relaxed and calm. Our therapists will ask you before they start what you want from your massage, and tailor the strokes and the essential oil mix to your needs.
If you’re pregnant or breast feeding, please make sure that you tell our staff as there are some essential oils which shouldn’t be used during pregnancy (although the vast majority are perfectly safe to use throughout).
